Marine wildlife viewing, swimming and boating (natural boat launch only – no motors) are some of the activities that can be enjoyed in the park. Two-day use facilities exist. Newcastle Island Provincial Marine Park Newcastle Island became a Provincial Marine Park in 1961, when the nearby city of Nanaimo granted it to the province after having acquired the island from the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1955. Situated in Nanaimo Harbour, Newcastle Island possesses a rich natural and cultural history. The island's shoreline is dominated by steep sandstone cliffs and ledges with some sandy gravel beaches. There are many caves and caverns along the shoreline, providing an appealing contrast to the upland that is covered with Douglas-fir, Arbutus, Garry Oak and Dogwood trees. Smelt Bay Provincial Park This park is a great attraction for boaters who wish to paddle the calm waters of Smelt Bay. The pebble beach offers breathtaking scenery. Day use facilities as well as overnight camping are available. The park is located on the southwest side of Cortes Island, 15 km south of the Whaletown Ferry Terminal.

Small Inlet Marine Provincial Park Small Inlet Park is located at the northern tip of Quadra Island and offers boaters a protected anchorage before passing through the tidal rapids of the Discovery Passage, Okisollo Channel and Hole in the Wall. Contained within the park, Newton Lake provides ample opportunity for swimming, picnicking and lakeshore strolls. This park does not provide facilities. Address: .

Read Island Provincial Park Read Island Provincial Park encompasses old-growth and second-growth forest, bog and fertile lowlands and protects important high density Bald eagle habitat. See a wide variety of wildlife including river otters, seals and sea lions along the water’s edge, and black-tailed deer, weasels, mink, beaver, cougars and wolves in the uplands. The park is an excellent spot to see Bald eagles, who nest in the tall trees. There are no designated campsites at this park, however random wilderness camping is allowed. No facilities are provided and there is no fee. Read Island is accessible year round.

Octopus Island is a part of the BC Marine Trail Association Network - a series of trails connected to one another and offering resting areas, campsites and other services for boaters. Mitlenatch Island Bird Sanctuary Located just south of Quadra Island, Mitlenatch Island, meaning calm water all around in Coast , is accessible only by boat. This provincial nature park encompasses 36 hectares of land, 119 hectares of water and contains the largest seabird colony in the Strait of Georgia. The park boundary extends 300 metres (1000 ft) from the shore, protecting all marine life within this area. This park is extremely ecologically sensitive and visitors are not permitted to leave the trails, nor are bikes permitted. |

Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park Overlooking Drew Harbour, Rebecca Spit is located on the east side of Quadra Island. Lined on either side by beaches, this area is a popular day use park and provides ample hiking, kayaking, canoeing, diving and swimming. Picnic tables are also scattered throughout. Surge Narrows Provincial Park Known for its strong tidal currents and violent waves, paddlers are warned to avoid paddling the waters of Seymour Narrows altogether and only attempt Surge Narrows at slack tide. Boaters should be experienced and well versed in the areas tidal changes as the water can reach speeds of up to 16 knots. These high tidal changes and many reefs sustain an abundance of marine life including sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea stars and more. Surge Narrows Provincial Park Surge Narrows Provincial Park is located on the south end of Maurelle Island, east of Quadra Island off central Vancouver Island. With its high tidal changes and many reefs, this park has ideal conditions for marine life. Sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea stars and anemones flourish in these prime conditions. Random wilderness camping is permitted on the upland portions of the park, which is undeveloped and has no facilities. Roscoe Bay Provincial Park A small fjord and adjacent upland on the east side of West Redonda Island, this park provides excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, backcountry camping and anchorage in Roscoe Bay and fishing, hiking and warm water swimming at Black Lake. Roscoe Bay is known for it’s annual congregations of Moon Jellies ( Jelly Fish). Wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed, but no facilities are provided.
